Veterans Joseph Ammirato, Richard Hsieh Join Woven Systems
Woven’s Ultra-low Latency Ethernet Fabric Switching Solutions Uniquely Address Growing Market Demand for Massively Scalable, Next-generation Data Centers: Woven Systems, the leading innovator of Ethernet Fabric switching solutions for data centers and high-performance computing clusters, has announced the appointment of Joseph Ammirato as vice-president of marketing and Richard Hsieh as senior director of product management. This veteran marketing team has been carefully selected to enable Woven to fully capitalize on growing market demand for massively scalable, standards-based, ultra-low latency Ethernet Fabric switching solutions for next-generation data centers. Woven’s EFX 1000 Ethernet Fabric Switches, with vSCALE packet processing for enabling Active Congestion Management, offers a build-as-you-grow approach to scale data centers for the most demanding business-critical applications. “We’re at a pivotal stage in the company’s lifecycle, which is why the addition of Joe Ammirato and Richard Hsieh is of such strategic importance,” said Jeff Thermond, president and CEO of Woven Systems. “Woven's unique Ethernet Fabric solution is gaining momentum with customers deploying next-generation data centers that must deliver mission-critical data in a growing Web 2.0-based global market. The breadth and depth of Joe’s and Richard’s networking experience provides us with two leading players that will help usher Woven to its next growth stage.” “There is no question that Ethernet Fabric switches are going to play an instrumental role in data centers of the future,” Ammirato said. “After thorough due diligence, I’m convinced Woven Systems is the most innovative company in this fast growing market. Its vSCALE packet processing technology, which enables Active Congestion Management, uses today’s standards to deliver a massively scalable, ultra-low latency Ethernet fabric. Moreover, Woven offers its customers the ability to build data center infrastructures at pace with computing demand as opposed to over-investing in costly solutions on day one. I’m looking forward to joining a company leading the next wave of data center Ethernet infrastructure build-out.” Previously at Cisco for nine years—where he was the senior director of product marketing for the entire Catalyst 4500 and 4900 product lines—Ammirato brings over two decades of strategic product management experience defining next-generation product lines in networking software and hardware. His unique combination of skills includes 12 years of experience in marketing management and 14 years of software engineering and program management. Before that he was senior director of product management in charge of Cisco's access routers, where he was responsible for product strategy and roadmap, outbound marketing, and competitive product positioning. Prior to Cisco, Ammirato held senior-level positions with a number of successful companies including 3Com, Borland International, Ashton-Tate, and Sun Microsystems. Ammirato has a Bachelor of Science degree in General Sciences from Cornell University. As Woven Systems’ new senior director of product management, Richard Hsieh has amassed nearly 20 years of product management, engineering and software design expertise. With Cisco since 1996, and most recently as director, product management in the Gigabit Systems Business Unit, he was responsible for all product management aspects of Cisco’s Catalyst 4500 Gigabit Ethernet Switching product family. Prior to that he held key product management roles, including senior manager of the Wireless Access Business Unit and product manager for the Desktop Switching Business Unit. Prior to Cisco, Hsieh worked at Asante Technologies, Sun Microsystems and Tandem. Hsieh holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Santa Clara University, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
