Fakespace Systems Inc., a subsidiary of Mechdyne Corporation, today announced that it was awarded a multi-million dollar contract from Sandia National Laboratories. Fakespace will custom design, build and integrate visualization systems for Sandia’s MESA (Microsystems and Engineering Sciences Applications) MicroLab facility, consisting of the Education Center, Design Center, and Design Review Conference Room. Sandia, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a multi-program laboratory with major research and development responsibilities in national security, energy and environmental technologies, and economic competitiveness for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. Fakespace will incorporate the latest in projection and display technologies, offering high resolution viewing of fine detail and/or multiple image sources simultaneously in each of the visualization centers at Sandia. The Laboratory’s Education Center will include an extreme resolution PowerWall with at least 4,000 x 2,000 pixel per inch resolution. Several High Definition (HD) resolution monoscopic PowerWall screens will be incorporated for research and presentation purposes. The Design Center will consist of several HD projection systems and a large-scale LCD flat panel display, with interactive touch-screen capability. Fakespace will custom design a tiled projector Augmented Reality Display Table for the Design Review Conference Center, which will also include several HD resolution projection systems and interactive plasma screens. The centers will also contain some of the latest high resolution imaging technologies. Fakespace will provide new, fully digital 5-megapixel microscopes for imaging of nanotechnologies. The completely automated microscope will be integrated into the overall control system of each center. High resolution, progressive scan document cameras and dual-camera video conferencing systems will be available to users. The three centers will be fully networked for internal and external collaborative meetings. “Fakespace will work with Sandia staff on overall facilities and integration planning,” said James Gruening, Vice President of Operations for Fakespace. “Our professional services team will also work with Sandia to evaluate optimal projection technology for each application.” Work on the Centers will begin immediately with an expected completion date of May 2006.
