Benchmarking Shows AMD, Scali & SilverStorm Empower Performance for CD-adapco

Scali, SilverStorm and CD- adapco today announced benchmarking results comparing CD-adapco's STAR-CD version 3.26 running on AMD processors using Scali's MPI Connect and SilverStorm's Infiniband networking versus MPICH on Ethernet. Results indicate as much as a 340% performance improvement versus MPICH and Gigabit Ethernet on a 32-node environment. The complete results are available today in the report entitled, "Production HPC Clusters: State-of-the-Art Performance via a Best-of-Breed Solution Stack," available at www.scali.com/benchmark, www.silverstorm.com/ and www.cd-adapco.com. Scali MPI Connect, in tandem with SilverStorm Infiniband, provided the best overall performance. In some cases this configuration more than doubled the performance achieved with the MPICH / Gigabit Ethernet combination. The results show the Scali MPI Connect/SilverStorm Infiniband combination is even more attractive as processor count increases -- as its performance gain over MPICH / Gigabit Ethernet accelerates with processor count. In fact, in some instances, the data indicates "super-linear" performance where increased processors resulted in greater than 100% performance improvement. "As cluster adoption becomes more prevalent, it's important to identify and leverage state-of-the-art software and hardware innovations that will result in the highest levels of performance in production HPC cluster deployments," said Dennis Nagy, vice president, marketing and development at CD-adapco. "We're committed to providing customers with high performance and highly scalable solutions that will lower their cost of running simulation problems and expect to remain the high performance platform of choice for clustering solutions in CFD. This solution, leveraging Scali MPI Connect and SilverStorm's Infiniband, clearly meets that need." "SilverStorm and Scali are committed to providing customers in the CFD space high performance and high scalability platform solutions that will lower their cost of running simulation problems," said Reini Florin, vice president of marketing at SilverStorm. "Together with our partners CD-adapco and Scali, SilverStorm will continue to push the envelope in scalability and performance." "In high performance computing, combining the right components is critical to achieving top performance," said Bjorn Skare, CEO of Scali. "These results highlight the value that customers can expect from leveraging the industry's best technology."
