Intransa 10GbE IP SAN to Power Visualization Application for Sandia

Intransa, the global innovator of network-centric, IP storage solutions, is taking the lead in showcasing its state-of-the-art high performance computing (HPC) 10GbE IP storage technology at Supercomputing 2005 in Seattle, Washington, between November 12-18. Intransa 10GbE IP SAN technology will be predominantly featured at Supercomputing 2005. Intransa will be included as part of the Supercomputing NextGen StorCloud showcase, featuring emerging HPC storage technologies within a high-bandwidth Storage Area Network. Intransa's participation in StorCloud will serve two distinct demonstrations. First, Intransa's 10GbE IP storage solution will power a HPC visualization application hosted by Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). Second, Intransa will be participating in the StorCloud Challenge in conjunction with Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Both demonstrations will utilize the highly regarded Intransa IP5500. "The storage demands of high performance computing applications, such as simultaneous visualization, are very stringent, and because of that we have to go with the most capable and advanced technologies available," said Helen Chen, Distinguished Member, Technical Staff, Sandia National Laboratories. "The Intransa 10GbE IP SAN, using the Chelsio N210 Server Adapter, clearly demonstrates the readiness of 10GbE as a viable alternative, not only for applications requiring high bandwidth, but applications that require on-demand information." The SNL demonstration, located in the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) booth 402, will feature three advanced scientific visualization applications making use of eight visualization servers. Data will be stored on Intransa's IP5500 iSCSI storage and be accessed through the StorCloud via a Chelsio N210 Server Adapter. The Intransa IP5500 will be served through Clustered File Systems, Inc.'s, Lustre High-Performance File System, making use of Distributed Object Storage Targets (OST's) that are capable of high performance IB object-level file and data I/O to the Intransa 10GbE back-end storage. The AIST application is a world-class particle physics application used by the KEKB supercollider and put to use by 56 institutes in more than 13 countries. The Belle detector at KEKB generates over 1 TB of data on a daily basis. The StorCloud demonstration challenge will run on a highly dense (4U) 64-node computer cluster tied to multiple storage arrays, including Intransa's IP 5500.
