Fakespace Systems Announces First 1600 x 1200 Active Stereo Digital Projection

Marshalltown, Iowa – Fakespace Systems today announced the development of the world’s first ultra high-resolution, digital, active stereoscopic projection system. The new projection technology increases available pixel density up to 1600 x 1200 Ultra XGA (UXGA) resolution, providing an extremely bright and stable display with unprecedented detail for use in advanced visualization solutions. Fakespace Systems acquired an exclusive worldwide license to manufacture and market this projection technology, which was developed by Dr. Karri Palovuori, professor at The Institute of Electronics at Tampere University of Technology. With 1600 x 1200 pixels native resolution, the projector technology enables visualization of complex data sets and provides extremely rich detail that was not possible with active stereo, digital projection until now. The data sets can be viewed in extreme resolution in either active stereoscopic or monoscopic modes. “Advances in high-performance computing have outpaced the capability of today’s state-of-the-art projectors,” said Antti Juva, Director, Hermia Business Development, Ltd. “Fakespace Systems was our first choice to bring this leading edge technology to market. We knew that Fakespace had the depth of experience in providing complete visualization solutions to make the best use of our discoveries and bring this new advancement to the world’s most demanding facilities.” Designed to help fully leverage the high resolution graphics cards and multi-channel computing power available today, the patent-pending technology provides many of the benefits of active stereo digital projection, including mirror-bounce configuration to reduce system footprint, gen-locking, and compatibility with edge-blending and distortion correction. The projection technology is also capable of resolutions higher than the stated 1600 x 1200. It will be available in CAVE®, FLEX™, CURV™ and PowerWall™ visualization environments from Fakespace Systems beginning in August 2003, and can be previewed in specially scheduled demonstrations over the course of the summer. “With the addition of proprietary stereo projection technology to our portfolio, Fakespace continues to set the benchmark with its ability to provide the broadest range of products, services and expertise in advanced visualization systems,” said Chris Clover, chief executive officer of Fakespace Systems. “We are excited about bringing the very best in visualization to our customer base, and this latest collaboration extends the company’s long track record in identifying and developing innovative technologies to meet the growing demand for powerful, and effective visualization systems.”
