Scientific Visualization Research Scientist

This Research Scientist/Research Associate position at the Texas Advanced Computing Center will enhance the research and development activities of the UT academic research community, industrial partners and NPACI user community. Responsibilities: * Initiate and conduct research into new visualization and data analysis techniques related to effectively handling data in the multi-gigabyte to multi-terabyte range * Train UT faculty, staff, students and industrial partners in the effective use of the TACC Vislab in the ACES building to enhance their own research and development * Publicize the results of these activities through presentations at conferences/workshops, and through publications in proceedings and professional journals * Obtain external funding to grow TACC's visualization activities, expertise, and resources by submitting proposals to funding agencies, industrial partners and vendors Additional tasks as needed Required Qualifications: * Doctoral degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar field with specialization in scientific visualization * Three or more years post-doctorate experience in an academic environment * Research experience in scientific visualization and history of publishing work (5 or more publications) in these areas * Proficiency with common scientific visualization software packages such as AVS, DX, Iris Explorer, etc * Experience in visualization application and tool software development using open GL, Mesa, IDL, etc. * Demonstrated expertise working in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects with computational scientists and engineers * Six or more years experience in using scientific visualization techniques to analyze scientific data Preferred Qualifications: * History of writing successful proposals for external funding * Experience with parallel programming in the develoment of visualization applications * Expertise in statistics and numerical analysis * Significant coursework or other formal education in an application science or engineering discipline * Undergraduate or graduate-level teaching experience * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor For further information and to submit a resume send mail to admin@tacc.utexas.edu.
