EMC Enhances CLARiiON Interoperability with Compaq Tru64 Support

HOPKINTON, MA -- EMC Corporation today expanded its lead in offering the storage industry's widest range of server and operating system interoperability with the announcement of EMC CLARiiON support for Compaq Tru64 UNIX operating environments. Building upon the customer trend of separating storage acquisitions from servers, customers are now able to combine the power of networked EMC CLARiiON enterprise storage systems and software with their Compaq AlphaServers running the Tru64 UNIX operating system and Compaq TruCluster high-availability clustering software. In addition, customers can now deploy EMC CLARiiON business continuity software solutions such as EMC MirrorView and EMC SnapView to ensure continuous availability of their Tru64-based information. As remote replication software, MirrorView provides the mirroring functionality not available with Compaq's StorageWorks EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) and other products. Also in sharp contrast, SnapView point-in-time snapshot software enables advanced functionality such as eight concurrent copies of production data for parallel processing operations. Richard Arenaro, Vice President of Information Technology, Commerzbank, said "EMC's breadth of support and unwavering commitment for all the various pieces associated with a networked storage environment was instrumental in our decision to reassign our Compaq Tru64 data onto a CLARiiON enterprise storage platform. From servers, operating systems and switches to backup software, no matter who the vendor, EMC's robust interoperability is a competitive differentiator." Bill North, Director of Storage Software Research, IDC, said, "The protection and sharing of information storage is of top priority in today's security-conscious climate. Customers are requiring mirroring and replication capabilities that are agnostic of the operating environment. EMC CLARiiON, with MirrorView and SnapView, now extends these essential data insurance components to support Tru64 customers." Joel Schwartz, EMC's Senior Vice President and General Manager, CLARiiON Systems Division, said, "As servers and operating systems evolve and change, CLARiiON gives customers the flexibility to deploy their storage resources into the widest range of environments. This flexibility delivers an annuity for customers, a constant stream of value that increases over time. While storage networks continue to increase in complexity, CLARiiON provides a clear and stable path to the future. As an added layer of protection, EMC's exclusive brand of interoperability support ensures that all the moving parts work together all the time." Compaq Tru64 interoperability support is a direct result of EMC's continuous development of the CLARiiON Flare operating environment. The software foundation for all CLARiiON intelligence, Flare offers more than 10 years of time-tested depth and stability, enabling differentiated flexibility, software functionality, system performance and investment protection to heterogeneous networked storage environments. In addition to the announced Compaq Tru64 support, EMC's CLARiiON FC4700, MirrorView and SnapView products continue to support the following operating systems: HP-UX, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows NT/2000, Red Hat Linux, Novell Netware, SGI IRIX and more.
