Specific Description Bachelors Degree from an accredited college in a Computer Science or information systems related discipline with 5 years of High Performance Computing Sun Solaris-based UNIX systems administration experience. Experience with large data management systems and file systems required. Experience with Sun SAM-QFS 4.1 or greater and StorageTek ACSLS is desired. Comprehensive knowledge of Sun Enterprise F12000/F15000 series Sun systems in an enterprise networked management software installation, customization and system network connectivity (GigE,etc.) is required. Some experience with system security (Kerberos, SSH, TCP Wrapper,etc.) is also required. Candidate must have significant Solaris systems administration experience as well as a working knowledge of all aspects of maintaining a heterogeneous computing environment and a thorough knowledge of Sun Enterprize system administration tools. Experience with large,multi-domained servers in a data management environment is preferred.Candidate must also have a good working knowledge of network principals, system troubleshooting techniques, and the overall system life cycle operating system administration. Must also possess 5 years of demonstrated experience with scripting languages and debugging skills with UNIX Shell scripts. Must have demonstrated expertise in Information Technology-Systems Administration, Operating System administration and their infrastructure: networking, systems security, storage technology and retrieval systems. Excellent customer/user interaction skills will be necessary to successfully address the assignments for this position. Candidate must be team oriented and capable of multi-tasking in a dynamic, demanding environment and must be a self-starter, able to plan, schedule and coordinate assignments with other team members. This posting is for a position in Mississippi to support the NAVOCEANO High Performance Computing Center, one of the DOD Major Shared Resource Center facilities. Responsibilities for this position are: Provide for Sun Solaris and SAM-QFS systems administration, performance tuning, client security administration, systems software support, and technology assessments in support of a production UNIX environment. Will function as a Sun HSM systems administrator, responsible for systems enhancement, configuration, maintenance, installation, interfaces, coordination, and software installations and upgrades to Solaris, SAM-QFS, and layered software packages. In addition, monitors and tunes systems to achieve optimum level of performance in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. Performs acceptance testing of modules, subsystems, and total systems. Will be responsible to perform software installation and configuration. Reports to the Manager of Systems Administration. General Position Description Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining Unix workstations and servers, including Web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to Unix operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum level of performance. Ensures Unix workstations/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of Unix workstations/servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines. Typical Minimums Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree.
