Latest Scyld Clusterware Release 4.2 delivers additional ease of use and reliability to its industry leading suite of provisioning, management and performance features for Linux Beowulf clusters. Penguin Computing today announced the immediate availability of the latest version of its High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster management solution Scyld Clusterware 4.2. This release extends the classic Scyld benefits of fast, dynamic provisioning, single system management, guaranteed environment consistency and fast repurposing , with new features which support multi-master configurations for high availability, the seamless integration of Linux clusters into existing directory services infrastructures and the integrated support for various parallel or cluster storage systems. "Scyld Clusterware makes our life easier and allows us to get optimal productivity from our Linux cluster," said John Ristevski, Co-CEO Earthmine, Inc, a street-level 3D mapping provider. "Penguin Computing ensured that our cluster and cluster management system is integrated seamlessly into our operating environment so that deployment, management, and operation is simple. " Each compute node in a cluster can now be assigned to more than one head node. This feature enables the rapid configuration of highly available clusters. In case of a system failure on the primary master node, compute nodes can now automatically be reassigned to a secondary master. This 'multi-master' feature also allows for the quick repurposing of compute nodes. In situations where multiple clusters are configured for specific purposes, compute nodes can be assigned to one of many configurations, depending on the current computational workload situation. The added flexibility and attention to system availability are unique features in the HPC market and directed at the new generation of enterprise researchers. Besides the multi-master capability, Clusterware 4.2 also provides the ability to seamless integrate a Scyld cluster into an existing directory service infrastructure. And finally, support for the parallel file system, Lustre, was added. "Scyld Clusterware 4.2 is executing on our strategy to make Scyld the preferred cluster management solution for the engineers, scientists, and researchers who use linux clusters, and their supporting IT personnel, by making it the easiest to use, most fully integrated solution on the market", said Arend Dittmer, director HPC product management, Penguin Computing.
