Cray and LSTC Team to Exploit Scalability of LS-DYNA

Cray Inc. and Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC) announced a collaboration to exploit the scalable designs of LSTC's LS-DYNA engineering software and Cray's new Cray XD1 supercomputer. Cray and LSTC are aggressively optimizing the Cray communications libraries to enable LS-DYNA to fully exploit the scalability and performance of the Cray XD1 system's innovative interconnect technology. “For CAE users to consider a new computing platform, it must first demonstrate support for the software applications they are running today,” said Adam Lorant, vice president of marketing for Cray. “Our relationship with LSTC demonstrates our commitment to making the Cray XD1 a vital CAE tool -- a supercomputing platform that supports a full suite of CAE applications.” “As engineering problems get larger and more complex, interprocessor communication speeds become a real bottleneck,” said LSTC President John Hallquist. “The Cray XD1's very high-speed/low-latency interconnect and other scalability features allow users to apply larger numbers of processors to problems.
