Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping (OHM) is the world’s leading provider of Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) services, including surveying, data processing, and data interpretation services to the offshore oil industry. CSEM has been used for over 20 years by researchers to examine hydrothermal and volcanic systems on mid-ocean ridges. OHM has assembled a team of leading scientists in this field to further refine and develop the CSEM technique and transform it into a potent tool for optimizing hydrocarbon exploration and production. Streamline Computing began to partner with OHM over 3 years ago and during this partnership provided an initial compute cluster and subsequently have upgraded this solution twice with minimal impact in uptime to ensure the availability of the system for OHM’s users. Streamline Computing have also provided expert training and excellent support to assist the maintenance of the service. Standing at 71 AMD Opteron nodes, OHM’s system was initially purchased as a 4 node cluster and has undergone bi-annual upgrades in term of additional compute nodes and most recently a new head node with a SuSE Linux 10.3 distribution. The system is managed by the latest Cluster Management Appliance from Concurrent Thinking Ltd and this has enabled the effective integration of the new hardware in record time to extend the cluster from it’s humble beginnings to the powerful solution that exists on-site today. With offices in Aberdeen, Scotland, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Houston, Texas, OHM serve clients from around the globe in offshore locations ranging from shallow to ultra deep water. OHM’s full service CSEM offering spans a broad range disciplines which include:Feasibility studies, Survey design and planning, Data acquisition, Data processing, Data analysis and interpretation,Training, Reseach and Development & Advanced technology application. Originally formed in 2002 as a spinout from the UK’s prestigious National Oceanography Centre with venture capital funding, the company has completed in excess of 50 CSEM surveys spanning four continents as well as numerous reprocessing and interpretation projects using data collected by third parties. OHM is a valued customer of Streamline Computing and are a good example of what can be achieved when a customer/integrator partnership truly works. The sharing of plans and technologies from both parties ensures that Streamline Computing is always ready to accommodate changes to the cluster configuration in a timely manner and to meet OHM’s expectations.
