Hosted by Internet2 members Louisiana State University and the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI), the conference will include a wide variety of sessions and demonstrations including presentations on the new optical networking technologies, advances in middleware and federated identity technology, network research, as well as advanced applications in telemedicine, arts and humanities, K-12 educational programs, distance-learning, among many others. General sessions will include a presentation by Dr. Ed Seidel, Director of the National Science Foundation Office of Cyberinfrastructure who will present on the "The Importance of Cyberinfrastructure for Higher Education." Dr. Seidel will also host a live peek behind the scenes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using advanced iHDTV™ high-definition video technology to provide meeting participants in New Orleans with a first-hand view of the biggest science device on the planet. The videoconference will enable attendees to participate in a virtual Q&A with Jim Virdee, LHC CMS spokesperson, David Foster, head of communications and networks for CERN and Harvey Newman, professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology. General sessions will also feature Scott Cowen, President of Tulane University, who will describe the Tulane experience before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina, and Robert Browning, Director of the C-SPAN Archive, who will provide a live demonstration of the C-SPAN Archives. A live videoconference using dynamic circuit networking and UltraGrid high-definition videoconferencing technologies will highlight distance learning collaboration between Louisiana State University professor Thomas Sterling and students in the Czech Republic. The Internet2 Strategic Planning Execution Committee will lead a discussion on next steps in the community-driven strategic planning process and implementation.
