Terascala, Inc., a provider of high throughput, high capacity storage appliances, today announced that Bill Strecker has joined the company’s Board of Directors. Strecker is currently the CTO at Interactive Supercomputing, a developer of high performance mathematical simulation software, and a partner at Flagship Ventures. Previously he served as Senior Vice President, Technology & Corporate Development and CTO of Compaq Computer Corp. Before that, Strecker was with Digital Equipment Corporation for 28 years in various executive and senior technical positions, most recently as SVP Corporate Strategy & Technology and CTO. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and has received the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE) W. Wallace McDowell Award for outstanding contributions to the Computer Art. “Bill’s extensive experience and understanding of how performance technologies continue to drive the computer industry will be a great benefit for Terascala,” said Larry Genovesi, CEO of Terascala. “His unique perspective on user requirements, next generation technologies, and the dynamics of the computer industry are extremely helpful to Terascala as we continue to expand our footprint in the market.” Terascala builds high throughput, scalable storage appliances leveraging parallel file systems for those people who analyze large quantities of data to make faster, more accurate decisions. Its solution delivers twice the performance at half the cost of competitive solutions with no application changes, offering existing users a better alternative while allowing new users to affordably run their applications. “Server performance and storage capacity have expanded exponentially over the past decades, but storage throughput has not kept pace, in terms of performance and price / performance,” said Strecker. “As more application areas, such as virtualization, analysis, and data mining, leverage higher numbers of compute servers to accomplish their tasks, a storage solution that can deliver data quickly is becoming a necessity. Terascala is delivering a unique solution to solve this problem.”
