Penguin Delivers EMC-Powered Scalable Unified Storage
Penguin Computing announced an OEM agreement with EMC.
The agreement enables Penguin to offer complete end-to-end HPC solutions that leverage the reliability, performance and scalability of EMC VNX unified storage systems. The first Penguin solution is a high performance, scalable storage system based on the high performance parallel file system Lustre.
“We are excited about our latest HPC storage solution that is based on EMC VNX unified storage technology,” says Charles Wuischpard, CEO of Penguin Computing. “Penguin has long standing expertise in providing complete turnkey HPC solutions that deliver the highest levels of performance. EMC storage is known for its enterprise-class reliability, performance and scalability. Our customers will greatly benefit from an HPC solution that offers the best of both worlds.”
The Penguin solution combines EMC VNX unified storage with Penguin’s object storage and metadata servers from Penguin in a robust configuration that eliminates any single point of failure. Client connectivity is provided through either an FDR Infiniband fabric or 10GE from Mellanox. The Penguin solution provides one petabyte of storage capacity.
“We have seen growing interest in the use of EMC VNX unified storage as a key component for HPC environments. HPC customers are looking for complete solutions that integrate high performance compute with unified storage infrastructures,” says Rick Froehlich Senior Vice President of OEM and HPC at EMC. “We are pleased to supply Penguin Computing with the market’s leading unified storage along with OEM-specific engineering support and services, which will enable Penguin to differentiate its offering in the HPC market.”
A demo of the Penguin Lustre storage solution including a programmable 40GbE/FDR Infiniband fabric from Mellanox, will be shown at SC’12 in Salt Lake City, Utah in Mellanox’s booth 1531
