Sr. NASA Linux System Administrator and Sr. NASA Lustre Administrator

We are currently seeking two full-time System Administrators to join our team in supporting a recently awarded 10 year contract with the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Facility at NASA Ames Research Center, near Mountain View, California. Both the Sr. NASA Linux and Sr. NASA Lustre Administrators will become members of the High Performance Computing (HPC) team, where we support one of the world's most powerful supercomputers, known as Columbia (14,000 CPUs). The NAS HPC system team is responsible for monitoring, managing, tuning and upgrading the SGI Altix (Linux), IBM P575 systems, other HPC clusters and archive systems. NAS division has recently ordered a large (43000 Xeon CPUs) Linux cluster and is in progress of planning other major upgrades. Essential Job Duties: Your major responsibility will be to support all HPC systems, with an emphasis on supporting clusters and global file systems. With the team, you will perform ongoing activities supporting these systems, as well as help plan the future direction for computing systems for NASA. Other responsibilities include systems upgrades, testing, integrating new technology, beta testing software and hardware, and presenting papers at HPC conferences. Both Positions Require the Following Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Nine or more years of technical experience as a system administrator
- Five years’ experience with Linux, Shell and Perl programming.
- Three years’ experience with C programming and Networking
- Experience working with highly complex system implementations and organizational processes
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background check
- As the NASA Lustre Administrator, you must also have two years’ experience with Lustre file systems
Other Qualifications:
- Self-starter with excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to develop innovative, practical solutions to complex systems issues
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
- Strong ability to lead and work as part of a team
- Must possess the ability to learn quickly in a constantly changing environment.
- High Performance Computing experience is a plus
- Prior experience with large SGI Altix, IBM or Cray Systems, clusters or global file systems is a plus
