NEC adds new Intel processor-based servers

New green rack server and 4-socket blade servers bring NEC quality, value and function to address the broader spectrum of enterprise data center needs: NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and identity management solutions, today rolled out a new green server, added a new 4-socket blade server, and announced plans to further extend the industry’s broadest line of Intel processor-based servers. A leading brand in Japan and Europe, NEC has been an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of servers in North America for 15 years. Approximately one of every three data centers is estimated to have an NEC server under another brand name. NEC provides a complete server product line, for the small to large enterprise, with highly reliable, high performance, scalable offerings ideal for general business applications, data center solutions, and transaction processing. The first server in NEC’s i-Series product line, the i120Ra-e1 is designed with the new Intel low-power chip, lower power-consuming memory, and a redesigned power supply. The result is improved power efficiencies in a lightweight, compact 1U chassis. This server is perfect for optimizing data center efficiency and is essential for businesses looking to minimize environmental impact. Key features include: * Maximum power consumption as compared to 1U rack mounted conventional servers is 330 watts vs. 680 watts, with 2 CPUs in use. * Up to two Multi-Core Intel Xeon low-voltage power-efficient processors. * Support for 3.5-inch Serial Attached SCSI and Serial ATA disk drives with optional RAID 5 capability * The capability to remotely operate the server and monitor the health of server components, even when the server is powered off. * Support for the most common operating systems including Microsoft Windows Server 200X, VMware ESX, and a variety of Linux distributions such as RedHat, SUSE and Fedora. Pricing and Availability The Express5800/i120Ra-e1 is priced comparable to a two-socket 1U server and will be available in October. The Express5800/140Ba-10 is priced comparable to four-socket rack mounted servers, and is sold as a base unit plus standard server components for memory, hard disks, and add-on cards as needed. The 140Ba-10 is also available in October. NEC servers are available through selected resellers and direct from NEC Corporation of America.
