Adrian Tate, a veteran in numerical libraries for supercomputing, has been named the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG). Adrian will replace Rob Meyer, who is standing down after 15 years of leading NAG, in November 2019.
Adrian joins NAG with a 20-year track record in numerical libraries, including 15+ years at Cray. Adrian brings a wealth of experience in high-performance computers, software R&D, and business leadership. In his current role, Adrian is the founding Director of the Cray European R&D Lab, where he leads customer-focused business activities, coordinates EU R&D projects and develops collaborations with Cray customers. He previously worked in Cray’s CTO Office, developing new market-focused products and supporting the CTO in strategic planning. Adrian has a strong background in numerical libraries, having been the Technical Lead and Manager of the Cray Scientific Libraries team for several years. Prior to Cray, Adrian was an HPC consultant at the University of Manchester.
Professor Stephen Todd, NAG Chairman, said of the new appointment: "The Board and I are delighted that Adrian has agreed to take on the role of CEO of NAG. We believe he has the right skills and experience to lead NAG through the next phase of its growth, building on the strong platform that Rob and the Senior Leadership Team have formed over the last 15 years."
Speaking of his new role as CEO of NAG, Adrian said: “It’s a real honor to be chosen to lead the Numerical Algorithms Group – a company I’ve known and respected for my entire career. I share NAG’s passion for the role of mathematics in technology and believe this remains highly relevant in the new era of computing. I look forward to working with such a talented team to continue providing quality to NAG’s many customers whilst innovating for future growth.”
