Customers deploy Arista Networks' Cloud Networking Platform

Arista Networks, formerly known as Arastra, today announced three customers deploying its Cloud Networking Platform for scalable datacenter and computing environments. "In the upcoming era of cloud computing, the web will be much more thanjust a means of delivering content -- it will be a platform in its own right, requiring an extremely scalable cloud networking infrastructure," said Jayshree Ullal, President and CEO of Arista."A similar transformation is happening in the enterprise where many customers are consolidating existing datacenters into much larger virtualized computing clouds. Cloud computing requires fundamental improvements in network scalability, reliability, and latency beyond what traditional enterprise networks have offered. Arista's Cloud Networking Platform will cost-effectively scale to meet the needs of datacenters of all sizes. "We are deploying three terabits of non-blocking switch capacity in our CDN and evaluated everyone and were very impressedwith the Arista 7100'sreliability, robustness, andextensibility," said Perry Wu, Co-Founder and CEO of California based BitGravity, a leading Video Content Distribution Network. A key element of Arista's Cloud Networking Platform is EOS, its Extensible Operation System. EOS's unique modular state-sharing design enables self-healing and in-service software updates across the entire network without interruption. In addition, EOS enables third-party extensions for network management integration and automation. These capabilities have been embraced by Arista's customers. "We are developing extensions for Arista's EOS that will enable it to be integrated into large-scale distributed systems, providing major new capabilities for network services that can quickly adjust to changing traffic requirements," said Joe Mambretti, Director of the International Center for Advanced Internet Research at Northwestern University (iCAIR). The US National Nuclear Security Administration's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) chose Arista 7100 Series switches to cost-effectively scale their networking capabilities. "To maintain the cutting-edge R&D computing capabilities our scientists need to fulfill their national security missions, we look for the cost-effective technology solutions that best suit our unique computing environment. We selected the Arista switches because they provide the low latency, high density and reliability requirements our cluster, storage and network infrastructure require," said Mark Seager, Assistant Department Head for Advanced Technology of LLNL's Computation Directorate. "The Arista switch technology allows us to explore and develop the petascale computing capabilities vital to our future research endeavors and advances high performance computing." Arista has been shipping a portfolio of 10 Gigabit Ethernet products since May 2008 to customers in several vertical markets, including financial markets, high-performance computing, public sector, manufacturing, Internet data centers, healthcare, and media/entertainment.
