Absoft Corporation announced the availability of Fx2, an advanced new source-level debugging tool for Fortran (F77, F90, F95), C, C++, and assembly languages. Fx2 is available for 32/64-bit Linux systems and is compatible with Fortran compilers from Absoft, IBM, Intel, and PGI, plus many C/C++ compilers. Supported architectures include x86/IA32/AMD32, AMD64, and PowerPC/G4/G5.The Fx2 Debugger works with command line and graphical interfaces on single processor desktops, multi-processor workstations, and for customers using OpenMP or MPI a distributed interface that easily scales from 2-1024+ processes is optional. Fx2 supports all Fortran 95/90 constructs and is the most complete Fortran debugging solution available for 32/64-bit Linux users. “Fx2 was developed in response to continued customer demand for a tool of this nature,” said Wood Lotz, President of Absoft. “Scientific and engineering users want a single affordable, commercially-supported, feature-rich Fortran/C++ debugging solution that can be used with different compiler vendors across a wide variety of platforms. Fx2 delivers this, with superior debugging capabilities and multiple interface options for different system configurations.” The standard Fx2 configuration is designed for single workstations and includes command line and GUI interfaces. For more complex multi-processing or large cluster configurations, Fx2 offers an optional GUI designed specifically for OpenMP and MPI environments that easily scales from 2-1024+ processes. Users benefit from advanced features and complete control over a large debugging process. Fx2 evolved from Absoft’s Fx debugger, designed to support Fortran on Unix and used by thousands of customers worldwide. Debuggers derived from gdb have limited Fortran capabilities, vary between environments, and are not commercially supported, but Fx2 provides a single, consistent solution between platforms and compiler vendors regardless of environment. Further Fx2 includes Absoft’s world-class technical support. Fx2 comes bundled with Absoft Fortran95 v9.0 for AMD64/Linux, but is available separately for other compilers and vendors. The retail price for Absoft’s Fx2 Debugger is $499. Through June 30th all customers (commercial and academic) can buy Fx2 for only $199.
