Chelsio Communications has announced that Purdue University's Coates Cluster, which ranked #103 in the recent mid-year Top500 supercomputer listing, is the first native 10Gb Ethernet cluster system to be ranked on the Top500 list.
Nearly 1,000 Chelsio Unified Wire adapters were deployed as part of the Coates Cluster, which was touted as one of the world's largest 10Gb Ethernet clusters. Achieving such a high ranking within the Top 500 supercomputer listing highlights the capabilities and effectiveness of 10Gb Ethernet with iWARP as a low-latency, and much lower cost, alternative to InfiniBand.
"Chelsio's iWARP RDMA offers InfiniBand compatibility for modern parallel applications, while simultaneously providing 10Gbps connectivity for older, TCP-based applications," said John Campbell of Purdue University.
"Chelsio was pleased to be an active participant in the world's largest public 10Gb Ethernet cluster, and we congratulate Purdue University for achieving its high ranking in the Top 500 supercomputer listing," said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio.
