Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Company, and Concurrent Computer Corporation today announced that they have partnered to provide RTI’s standards-based real-time data distribution middleware with Concurrent’s RedHawk Linux in support of the U.S. Navy’s Aegis Open Architecture program. “The Aegis Open Architecture program has demonstrated that demanding performance requirements can be met with standards-based, commercial off-the-shelf software,” said Warren Neuburger, COO of Concurrent. “The combination of RedHawk Linux and RTI Data Distribution Service provides the Navy with an open and scalable platform and distributed processing environment for the Aegis Weapon System’s real-time and distributed processing requirements.” “We are pleased to partner with Concurrent to meet the needs of this prestigious program,” commented Dr. Stan Schneider, chief executive officer of RTI. “Our mutual commitment to providing open solutions based on industry standards will allow the Navy to more easily take advantage of future technology upgrades.” Aegis Open Architecture is the foundation for the modernization of the Navy’s Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers. The open architecture approach will allow the Navy to readily incorporate software and hardware updates into its Aegis systems. This enables those systems to be maintained at the highest level of capability while employing low-cost, off-the-shelf solutions. Concurrent’s RedHawk Linux provides a fast response to external events, optimized interprocess communication, and the high I/O throughput needed for time-critical applications. RedHawk Linux, compatible with the popular Red Hat distribution, has gained acceptance as a leading real-time Linux operating system for high-performance applications by customers throughout the world. RedHawk Linux guarantees that a user application can respond to an external event in less than 30 microseconds on a dedicated processor. RTI Data Distribution Service provides a rich publish-subscribe middleware environment that complies with the Object Management Group's (OMG’s) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard. RTI Data Distribution Service significantly reduces the time required to implement communication within a distributed real-time system while providing a more scalable, maintainable and manageable infrastructure.
