Terra Soft Solutions, the leadingdeveloper of integrated Power ArchitectureLinux solutions todayannounced the release of a mobile, pre-configured 8-nodeXservebioinformatics cluster. The Y-Bio Cluster is a natural follow-on offering to Y-Bio, Terra Soft's bioinformaticssolution that combines over 100 genomics sequencing applications into asingle, managed interface. Y-Bio Cluster enables bioinformaticists toconduct research in the time required to apply power, log-in, andupload data. No configuration or system administration experience isrequired. Terra Soft ships the cluster with the base user accountspre-configured and pre-tested by the end-user via remote connection. "The Apple G5 Xserve running Y-HPC is an ideal platformfor genomics research, taking advantage of the 970's incredible 32-bitperformance and light-weight, flexible Linux OS," said Kai Staats, CEO of Terra Soft Solutions. "In addition, we have bundled Cluster Resource's Moab, anelegant, professional cluster workload management solution that does notrequire the user to be a cluster administration expert." Moab Cluster Suite eliminates the complexity of cluster management so users with limited experience can benefit from the power of a cluster. Through Moab, Y-Bio Cluster users submit and manage workload via the Web interface. Moab empowers the cluster administrator to schedule, report, and monitor jobs; visually track architecture, OS, status, and CPU utilization; reserve, on-line / off-line connectivity, and cycle power nodes through a single desktop Java application. Both user and admin tools function with OSX, Windows, and Linux desktops with little to no training. "We are pleased that Terra Soft came to us with request for our support of their bioinformatics cluster," said Michael Jackson, President of Cluster Resources. "As our Moab solution runs on many of the Top500.org clusters, we believe it provides great value for Terra Soft's unique combination of Power hardware, the Linux OS, and a well integrated bioinformatics package." The default configuration of the Y-Bio cluster includes: - XRack Pro 2 mobile cluster housing. - Dual 2.0GHz G5 Xserve head node with 4GB RAM, 1TB storage, Combo drive, and graphics card. - 7x Dual 2.0GHz Cluster nodes with 4GB RAM, 80GB SATA drive. - HP Procurve 2724 switch: 24 10/100/1000 ethernet ports. - TORQUE Resource Manager & Moab Cluster Suite by Cluster Resources. - 64-bit gcc and tool chain. - IBM XLF/C compilers. - Y-HPC 64-bit OS and Cluster Construction/Management Suite. - Y-Bio bioinformatics suite. Y-Bio offers industry standards NCBI BLAST, EMBOSS, Glimmer, ClustalW, HMMER, Wise, and FastA -- tools for genetic sequence analysis. The Y-Bio web interface enables genomics researchers to benefit from unified data management, input, and execution. Y-Bio improves upon existing Pise-based offerings with support for both Power and x86 Linux desktops and clusters. RPM compliance with Yellow Dog, Red Hat, and SuSE complements simple installation, update, and package removal via yum and Up2Date. Secure web and shell interfaces and a database-driven PHP backend a flexible, unified package. Available for $47,383, the Y-Bio cluster can be delivered in less than three weeks from time of purchase.
