As data in the telecom industry continues to explode due to increased customer offerings in voice-over-IP, ISP, cable television and interactive services, telecoms are looking to Rincon Technology for new, more robust storage and server solutions. To satisfy this growing demand for leading-edge systems and more efficient storage and data management environments, Silicon Graphics and Rincon Technology today announced that Rincon has joined the SGI Channel Partner Program to introduce powerful SGI Altix family of servers and SGI InfiniteStorage solutions to major telecom carrier clients. Rincon Technology, based in Carpinteria, Calif., assists telecom providers and other Fortune 500 companies to stay on the cutting-edge of efficiency by guiding them through the maze of available technologies and providing them the optimum solution for their business objectives, while reducing the cost of acquiring new high-tech equipment. "With this agreement, we can now approach our major telecom customers with high-performance, next generation SGI server and storage equipment," said Peter Blair, Server and Storage Sales, Rincon Technology, Inc. "We believe the powerful 64-bit SGI Altix systems will be of particular interest to anyone looking to migrate from proprietary systems to the open standards of Linux, with its slew of applications and market momentum. It's a win-win deal for both companies. We see SGI servers and storage systems as a perfect fit for the telecom carrier data networking space. As technology migration experts, we want to provide our clients the solid performance, extreme reliability and openness required to do the job for many years to come." Rincon will offer the entire line of SGI servers and SGI InfiniteStorage systems to its core customer base of telecommunications service provider clients nationwide -- focusing initially on clients whose growth mandates a changeover from high-maintenance proprietary systems to the affordable, open system SGI Altix platform. While telecommunications carriers and ISPs make-up Rincon's core customer base, it also works with companies in other markets including healthcare, education, and energy/utilities. Rincon Technology is a certified minority-owned business managed by telecom and ISP industry veterans with experience in both selling and buying the technology it now offers clients. The company offers creative, individualized solutions to meet customer challenges in addition to offering some very unique services, including advice on managing technology as a liquid capital asset. Rincon offers equipment brokerage, for purchasing, selling and trading equipment, and capital asset management services, advising customers on the right time to buy and sell telecommunications equipment using a proprietary database and expert knowledge of the secondary market. "For instance," explained Blair, "Rincon can take a customer's surplus or legacy equipment, sell it, and use the proceeds towards purchase of SGI equipment. We have the experience, creativity, and range of services to make the purchase of storage and servers as painless and as affordable as possible." "Rincon Technology's ability to lower the total cost of ownership by purchasing used equipment from the customer along with high-end optical networking and computer infrastructure expertise makes them an exciting addition to our Channel Partner Program," said Nancy Pierce, director, North America Channel Sales and Marketing, SGI. "Rincon joins our team of storage-centric solution providers, delivering the robustness and reliability of SGI InfiniteStorage solutions to their clients, and at the same time this will increase SGI's bottom line with new business opportunities in new markets." SGI Altix servers are based on industry-standard technologies and components, such as Intel Itanium 2 processors and a 64-bit Linux(R) operating environment. As a result, SGI systems are perennial price/performance leaders that can be deployed rapidly so innovators can address the next-generation of challenges. SGI InfiniteStorage Solutions, created for the world's most data-intensive environments, uniquely enable customers to transparently share data everywhere, scale data as the business and application grow, manage the data lifecycle without limiting access, and accelerate workflows.
