Physicist Joins Board of Advisors of Massively Parallel Technologies

Massively Parallel Technologies, a provider of on-demand high-performance computing, announced that Dr. Robert Duncan has joined the Board of Advisors of Massively Parallel Technologies. A Gordon and Betty Moore Distinguished Scholar within the Division of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Duncan currently chairs this prestigious group of technologists and scholars. He also holds joint appointments as an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM), and as a Visiting Associate in Physics at Caltech. "I first learned about Massively Parallel Technologies about a year ago and found it to be a brilliant and efficient system, perhaps the most efficient and scalable system one can find," noted Duncan. "It's exciting to be a part of such revolutionary work and I believe its impact on the growth of computer science will be far more profound than the advent of personal computing." Duncan is a life member of the American Physical Society and chairs the International Steering Committee of Quantum Fluids and Solids. Prior to assuming his position at the University of New Mexico, he worked at Sandia National Laboratories where he was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff and received numerous awards. He has also worked as a visiting scientist at the National Bureau of Standards. Dr. Duncan, along with fellow University of New Mexico PhDs Frank Gilfeather and Brian Smith, conducted a third party evaluation of MPT's technology in August, 2003. Duncan is currently on leave from his position as Associate Dean for Research within the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Physics at UNM. "Dr. Duncan has a distinguished career in physics and has made significant contributions to the field of supercomputing and parallel processing," said Scott Smith, chief executive officer of Massively Parallel Technologies. "It is a tremendous honor to have him join our board of advisors. His impact on our company has been immediate and profound."
