HP has entered into a partnership with The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, (IIIT-B) to set up the HP-IIITB High Performance Computing (HPC) Center for research into advanced supercomputing technologies. To initiate the HP-IIITB HPC Center, HP has donated a Linux cluster comprising 64-bit Xeon and Itanium technology. The work will focus on clustering technologies including OpenSSI, an open source Single System Image clustering technology project sponsored by HP. OpenSSI is an advanced form of clustering software that simplifies system management by making the entire cluster appear to be a single system. The Center was inaugurated by Prof. S. Sadagopan, the Director of IIIT-B, and Todd DeLaughter, Vice-President and General Manager of HP'S Management Software Organization. Inaugurating the Center, Todd said "We are excited about this partnership and the role it will play in developing management solutions for the Adaptive Enterprise. IIIT-B's strength in research and its focus in taking research to market will make the collaboration between HP and IIIT-B extremely valuable." As part of the agreement, HP and IIIT-B have entered into a collaborative research agreement for 3 years on a wide range of technologies, including clustering and adaptive management, among other areas. Clustering is a critical software technology for supercomputing applications, such as biomedical drug research, high energy physics, and materials research. From systems designed for the engineering enterprise to supercomputing centers, the HP portfolio provides leading performance, solutions support and investment protection. Adaptive Management is a critical part of HP's enterprise strategy. Today, IT environments must be dynamic, ready to change and adapt, quickly and easily. Adaptive Management provides the necessary framework that allows IT systems to respond rapidly and in a cost-effective manner to the changing needs of business. Leveraging IIIT-B's strong commitment to industry oriented course development and HP's practical expertise in the area of Adaptive Management, HP and IIIT-B will work on developing a course of study on the subject of Adaptive Management. The HP-IIIT-B High Performance Center is part of HP's strategic University Relationship program that focuses on accelerating the research and development of technologies of strategic importance to HP in collaboration with the academic research community.
