SANTA CLARA, CA -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced that salesforce.com, the market leader in online customer relationship management (CRM), has chosen Sun servers, storage and services to run its award-winning enterprise Web service. ``Sun's E10K server is one of the fundamental pieces of technology that have empowered our business and allowed us to grow as quickly as we have in such a short period of time,'' said Jim Cavalieri, Chief Information Officer of salesforce.com. ``Sun's consistent track record in delivering the most scalable and highest quality servers in the marketplace made it the obvious choice for us. We've been able to pass those benefits along to our over 3,000 customers.'' Salesforce.com exploits the power of the Internet to help more than 3,000 customers including Siemens PT&D, Time Warner Communications, and Wachovia safely and securely manage, share and leverage their critical customer information anytime, anywhere. Salesforce.com employs Sun's Enterprise(TM) 10000 server, aka Starfire(TM), running the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment, as well as Sun Enterprise 4500 servers, Sun Enterprise 420R servers, Sun StorEdge(TM) arrays, and Sun professional services. The North American division of Bohler Uddeholm, the world-leading manufacturer of tool steel with over $1.3 billion in annual sales worldwide, has standardized its sales, support and marketing operations on salesforce.com's CRM solution. Aiming to streamline communication in order to improve cross-sell and better predict market demands, Bohler-Uddeholm replaced its existing paper-based system with salesforce.com's online service running on the highly scalable, flexible Starfire server. Implementation was completed in less than one month, and Bohler Uddeholm has realized over 250% return on investment (ROI) within months. ``Customers like salesforce.com are reaping the benefits of reduced total cost of ownership associated with implementation of Sun servers,'' said Steve Campbell, senior director of marketing, Enterprise Systems Products, Sun Microsystems, Inc. ``Sun's systems, with their massive scalability, mainframe-like RAS, and flexible resource management features, running the industry-leading Solaris Operating Environment, are increasingly the go-to platform for companies looking to manage secure, high-volume environments as cost-effectively as possible.'' This summer, salesforce.com's Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff was chosen as a Sun 2001 iForce Hero for establishing a CRM offering that gives companies a complete solution without the hassle and expense of installing, upgrading, and supporting their own software. As part of Sun's global iForce initiative, established to accelerate customer innovation through the sharing of knowledge and development of solutions within the Sun community of partners and customers, the iForce Hero program pays tribute to the accomplishments of a select number of individuals and companies who are visionaries and strong proponents of the Web. Other companies that have recently chosen Sun for their IT infrastructure include A.B. Watley, News Corporation, Pinnacle West, Ross Corporation, Shaw Communications and Katun Corporation.
