RAID storage expert Infortrend today unveiled a new line of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)-to-SATA-II subsystems, the EonStor (ES) A08S-G2130 and ES A12S-G2130 arrays that support up to eight or 12 drives, respectively. These high performance SAS host subsystems incorporate SAS wide ports and offer a combined throughput of 24Gb per second (Gbps) transfer speed to provide improved reliability, scalability, and availability compared to Ultra320 SCSI. Designed to use cost-effective SATA drives, the systems allow storage managers to continue to enjoy the significant cost benefits of SATA technology while taking advantage of leading-edge SAS functionality. The SAS-to-SATA systems are built around Infortrend's proprietary ASIC400 three-PCI-X architecture and use a 600MHz PowerPC FL CPU. Housed in an enhanced modular enclosure, these entry-level subsystems offer clustering capabilities for additional data storage, providing the lowest cost per disk drive in available SAS RAID arrays. As with all EonStor products, the systems include advanced RAID technology such as RAID5 and RAID6 for extreme protection against hard drives failures and embedded RAIDWatch for remote system management. “As the SMB market continues to grow, so does the need for higher capacity, higher performance data storage,” said Nick Liu, vice president of Infortrend Technology Inc. “Infortrend's new SAS solutions quadruple the speed of parallel SCSI systems, and with the advent of 750GB and larger SATA hard drives, IT managers can economically satisfy any storage demand.” EonStor A08S-G2130/A12S-G2130 * 2U, single controller, SAS-to-SATA-II subsystem available in 8- and 12- bay models * Two SAS wide connection ports with 12Gbps I/O bandwidth * RAID levels 0, 1(0+1), 3, 5, 6, 10, 30, 50, 60 * Easy maintenance with hot-swappable, redundant FRUs Target Markets and Uses The EonStor A08S/12S subsystems are ideal for applications such as direct-attached storage (DAS), clustered servers, and storage for applications requiring dedicated bandwidth. Availability First customer shipments of the EonStor A08S- and A12S- RAID subsystems began in the Asia Pacific region in April 2007. General availability is expected in May 2007 through Infortrend’s worldwide network of ODMs, distributors, and storage integrators.
