SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Linux NetworX announced today new and enhanced features of its award-winning cluster appliance ICE Box. The following features of ICE Box provide increased performance, high scalability and improved reliability. •Improved Scalability - Integrates with ClusterWorX software to use an IP-based virtual daisy chain for much higher reliability on systems with multiple ICE Boxes. By converting the serial-to-node communication to IP, ICE Box creates scalability because serial communication from the host is no longer required. •Greater Reliability - In the event of a power outage, network problem or other problem while updating ICE Box, a failsafe program is implemented that will restore the ICE Box to a previously healthy state. ICE Box now buffers up to 16k of out-of-band data per node. The buffer history allows the ICE Box to store a node's console error while the administrator isn't connected. •Faster Communications - For serial communication, 57600 was the only supported baud rate. ICE Box 2.1 now supports, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, or 115200 baud rates. Increased baud rates allow customers with larger systems using redundant serial to communicate more efficiently. •Increased Control - ICE Box 2.1 has the ability to access the MagicSysReq features of the Linux kernel to access the node during software failure.
