transtec is now offering the Moab Adaptive HPC Suite for its HPC cluster solutions. This solution provides companies and research institutes with the option of hybrid clustering with Linux and Windows.
Moab Adaptive HPC Suite is produced by Adaptive Computing Enterprises Inc., formerly known as Cluster Resources. Cluster Resources has previously been known for their cluster management solution “Moab Cluster Suite”, one of the most powerful software solutions for the administrations of small up to the largest HPC clusters worldwide.
Moab Adaptive HPC Suite makes it possible to change the operating system running on any given node in response to changing workload requirements. This happens automatically and is transparent to users and does not require any action on the part of system administrators.
For example, Windows HPC nodes can be deployed in a Linux cluster without intervention of an administrator needed. The intelligent Moab scheduler monitors workloads and triggers – in accordance with pre-defined policies – a rebooting of nodes to a new operating system or provides new computing nodes by diskful or diskless installation.
"transtec is linked to Adaptive Computing by a strategic partnership which enables us to provide our customers with HPC and datacenter solutions that meet very demanding requirements,” explains Dr. Oliver Tennert, Division Manager HPC at transtec. “In the near future we will see a convergence of High Performance Computing environments and classical datacenters, where consolidated solutions are created by means of virtualization technologies. Thus, a maximum of efficiency as regards resource usage and ease of management of the total solution with maximum of performance is obtained. With Adaptive Computing being the technology leader in that area we are sure to have the best possible partner at hand,” says Oliver Tennert.
Ian Gilbert, Director of Business Development for Adaptive Computing comments: “The continuing pressures to reduce costs, improve efficiency and limit complexity and risk, are leading to widespread consolidation. The move towards running multiple applications on a single cluster very often creates the need to run more than one operating system on the same cluster. The Moab Adaptive HPC Suite makes this possible and, at the same time, dynamically changes the resources available to any given OS in response to changing workload. With over 30 years experience in IT and a strong focus on HPC, transtec are an ideal partner for the design and installation of this advanced technology.”
