SUNNYVALE, Calif.--AMD today announced the AMD Opteron processor Models 240, 242 and 244 won Best of Show at the ClusterWorld Conference & Expo. This top honor is based on the innovative solution the AMD Opteron processors provide to cluster technology. The Excellence in Cluster Technology awards are the new industry standard for innovation in clustered systems," said Adam Goodman, CEO of QuarterPower Media, publisher of Linux Magazine and producer of ClusterWorld Conference & Expo. "These products and companies represent the very best solutions available to customers who require clustered systems. AMD should be applauded for its accomplishments." "Earlier this year, AMD for the first time gave enterprise, research and academic IT customers the ability to upgrade their infrastructure to 64-bit computing while retaining full legacy compatibility and performance with their existing 32-bit applications," said Ben Williams, director of the Server/Workstation Business Segment at AMD. "This validation by ClusterWorld and its esteemed panel of judges underscores the breakthrough of the AMD Opteron in the cluster environment." The AMD Opteron processor is uniquely suited for the modeling and design applications used in clustered installations. It is based on the industry standard x86 architecture and features an integrated DDR memory controller, superior I/O throughput via HyperTransport(TM) technology and scalability for up to 8 processors without requiring external logic.
