REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -- Oracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, announced general availability of Oracle9i Database Release 2 on 32- and 64-bit Windows Server 2003. Customers looking to upgrade their Oracle database servers to the latest Microsoft Windows operating system today can benefit from improved performance and memory management, along with a more efficient and easy-to-use development environment. Oracle9i Database Release 2 for 32- and 64-bit Windows Server 2003 is immediately available off OTN for download. Today, Windows customers can use Oracle's industry-leading database clustering technology, Oracle9i Real Application Clusters, to lower their total costs of ownership and to achieve even greater scalability and reliability by starting with a single, low-cost computer and then adding more computers -- with no application changes -- as their companies grow. Using low-cost commodity database clusters, Oracle customers on Windows can achieve mainframe-class computing at a fraction of the cost. In addition, Windows customers can benefit from Oracle's long-term commitment to providing the most secure and reliable database product in the industry -- as evidenced by Oracle's 15 independent security evaluations. Customers including Autovin, Bossier Parish, Capespan, Century Consultants, Cornell University, Leon County Florida, Schacter & Namder, and Telstra have implemented Oracle's database server on Windows to achieve the highest levels of scalability, availability, and security. As the leader in the modern relational database market, Oracle has helped thousands of customers build highly available, scalable, and reliable database systems on the Windows operating system -- at much lower total costs of ownership than Microsoft SQL Server on Windows. In fact, a growing number of small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) are implementing Oracle's database server on Windows as their first relational database. "Today's announcement underscores Oracle's long-term commitment to providing the best database software available on Windows -- at much lower costs -- than our competitors," said Andrew Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Server Technologies at Oracle Corporation. "We're proud to offer immediate support of Oracle9i Database for both the 32- and 64-bit Windows Server 2003 operating systems. This means that customers can upgrade their Oracle database servers without any delay and immediately begin building and deploying applications for their Oracle environments."
