- The Finisterrae is open to researchers and businesses through calls for competition.
This morning was presented at Supercomputing Center Galicia CESGA, the new section of Virtual Supercomputer Gallego, SVG, for additional calculations or pre and post Finisterrae. This is a new HTC supercomputer or flow computer, often used for research Genomics, molecular dynamics, drug design and engineering, among other disciplines. The new machine to double the capacity of computer systems such CESGA calculation, from 9 to over 18 teraflops and represents a substantial improvement of services center users.
President and CEO of CESGA R + D + i of the Ministry of Economy and Industry Xunta de Galicia, Ricardo Pueyo Assistant Director-General and the chapel of Infrastructure Planning Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Innovation Minister of Spain José Doncel Morales presented today at the CESGA, the new extension of the virtual supercomputer Gallego. The SVG extension was made possible thanks to the call for assistance from the Ministry of Science ICTS and innovation which complement the investments made by CESGA by contributions from the Xunta de Galicia and the Higher Council for Scientific Research, CSIC.
In Galicia there are three science and technology facilities, two research vessels and CESGA Finisterrae. In its size CESGA ICT can offer their services to groups excellence in research, nationally and internationally, giving space to research projects maximum relevance and innovation worldwide. Ricardo Capilla In this regard, he stressed "the ICT infrastructure as a character skeleton CESGA, attracting researchers, technologists and brightest innovators from various disciplines and serve as catalysts for new projects. "
Chapel said that "If we continue to grow, mature science in our country requires that our researchers have access to the infrastructure at the highest level, the that in his opinion "will possible if we unite our forces governments around the nuclei accurate than those that represent unique CESGA centers. "
For his part, José Doncel wanted to point out that the Scientific Committee of the infrastructure or the singular ICTS, "are edge Experimental cutting tools, high value-added services, Technological and industrial and government scientists, who are, among others, as a stimulus to the economy of the region where they are. The current "Plan Singular scientific and technological infrastructure "National, which is part CESGA composed of more than fifty plants at different stages of development are spread throughout Spain, covering various fields of research ranging from life sciences, physics or engineering and social sciences Human. "
SPECIFICATIONS
Awarded last November to Hewlett-Packard Spanish SL 176.882.00 Euro (open recruitment procedure, 10 / Folder # 2), "System-Pre and Post Treatment, High troughput Cluster Computing (HTC), the display capabilities enabled Expansion and renovation of the old architecture and end SVGD depreciated equipment Technology, improving the energy efficiency of central systems. Provide also a better organization of work for users according to their supercomputer needs.
SVG is a system designed to perform operations or HTC High Throughput Computing, a computer science term that describes the use of many resources a long period of time to perform a specific task of calculation. For example, screening or screening of large databases of chemical compounds is a common procedure in search for therapeutic targets for the development of new drugs or vaccines.
With this new hardware available to regular users, and also CESGA which can be accessed through ICT, including companies, extends and improves the availability CESGA computer. With its launch, SVG and helped reduce delays pending jobs queued in Finistere, a high-performance supercomputer parallelizable or parallel jobs that require substantial computing resources.
The technical data presented by the SVG are:
