SoftLayer Technologies announced that the company has completed upgrading the edge network routers across its wide area network (WAN). SoftLayer’s networking team installed Juniper Networks MX 3D Universal Edge Routers to all facilities and network points-of-presence. The newly implemented routers increase the company’s routing footprint by 400 percent adding four times the port capacity.
Key advantages include:
- Faster performance
- Greater stability
- Increased reliability
- Better visibility into network traffic
“Providing the best network performance and reliability is essential to our goal of giving customers the highest level of control over their infrastructure,” said Will Charnock, Vice President of Network Engineering for SoftLayer. “SoftLayer’s existing backbone routers were beginning to approach capacity. But rather than simply meeting those challenges, these upgrades boost performance, decrease latency, and give us capacity that will meet the demands of our growing customer base well into the future.”
“At the core of Juniper’s partnership with SoftLayer is the shared desire to deliver the best service and value in the industry, including supporting SoftLayer’s rapidly growing cloud-based and hosted subscribers,” said Mike Marcellin, vice president of systems strategy and marketing at Juniper Networks. “Critical features, including the unmatched scalability, enhanced security and automated provisioning and management of the MX Series, along with the proven reliability of the Junos operating system, makes the MX Series the right choice for creating and supporting demanding cloud environments like SoftLayer. We look forward to continuing to work with the SoftLayer team to find and implement new ways to improve value and service delivery to their customers.”
The addition of higher capacity networking gear enables SoftLayer to build a foundation for a truly global footprint across the SoftLayer backbone network. These upgrades provide high performance over geographically diverse facilities to customers and end-users around the world.
The Juniper Networks MX Series routers have been installed in all SoftLayer data centers and points of presence. Additional facilities in the coming months will be built with the same robust networking technology.
