A team of University of Wyoming researchers will use the new NCAR supercomputer near Cheyenne to map the hydrology of the Colorado River Basin.
Fifth-year undergraduate student Nels Frazier, of LaGrange, says the team will put the Upper Colorado River Basin into a computer model.
Frazier says such an undertaking wouldn't be possible without the new supercomputer.
The physics-based hydrologic model will be applicable over large areas to help assess long-term impacts of water policy and resource management decisions, natural and man-made land-use changes, and climate variability.
