Xirrus has announced the deployment of Xirrus high performance Wi-Fi Arrays at Weymouth College in Weymouth, United Kingdom. Weymouth College’s main campus at Cranford Avenue has been used for educational purposes since 1862 and became the home of this Further Education College in 1985 offering excellent results in education and training. Today, the college has over 7,000 students and provides a broad range of courses up to degree level, modern facilities, and experienced staff across several locations in South West Dorset. By upgrading the wireless network to Xirrus’ high performance Wi-Fi Arrays, Weymouth College was able to achieve their coverage, capacity and density requirements using a fraction of the devices, cables, and switch ports over traditional access point designs.
“As the use of wireless devices on our campus rapidly increased, it became apparent we would need to upgrade to a wireless solution that could handle our density requirements,” stated Phil Templeton, ICS manager at Weymouth College. “We were at the limit of what our existing wireless equipment could handle and our students and faculty were experiencing slow logons and frequent disconnects in their wireless service. Xirrus was able to quickly solve our capacity and connection issues using far fewer devices, cables and switch ports over traditional AP designs, saving the college time and money over other wireless vendors.”
Phil continued, “The Xirrus product seems to target and solve the needs of education institutions more than other wireless vendors we’ve encountered. Xirrus’ architectural approach of a Wi-Fi Array is much more suited towards the education environment, where we have large numbers of wireless devices in dense areas. Xirrus easily handles the coverage, bandwidth, and density requirements of our campus – our experience with them has been very positive from the outset.”
