David Turek, vice president of deep computing at IBM, says at the forum of the IEEE-USA held this week that China is speeding up its pace in the supercomputer field and has threatened the leading status of the US. Besides, Europe and Japan are also catching up.
He showed a photo at the forum, which displays the supercomputer center being built in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, south China. A building rises straight from the ground.
The end of May witnessed the disclosure of the 35th global raking for top 500 supercomputers. Dawning TC3600 blade server system Nebulae supercomputer at the China national supercomputing Shenzhen center ranks number two, surpassing Roadrunner of Big Blue and only next to Jaguar.
David Turek claims that China will overtake Europe in terms of the number of supercomputers on the top 100 lists within a year. Among the top 500 supercomputers, 24 are from Mainland China. They take the second place worldwide according to performance.
