Tom Frana, President and CEO of ViON Corporation (ViON), announced today that John J. Garing has joined ViON as a Vice President. Mr. Garing was previously a principal consultant at Suss Consulting. Prior to that, he served as the Chief Information Officer and Director for Strategic Planning and Information for the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) in the Department of Defense (DoD). In his new position, Mr. Garing will utilize his executive and technical expertise in strategic planning and economic analysis to support ViON’s federal and public sector customers with respect to their IT needs.
"We’re very excited that John is joining ViON," said Mr. Frana. "Without a doubt, John Garing is a pioneer in his field. He’s well-known for his innovative thinking and approach to data management and services, and he backs that up with a demonstrated ability to achieve meaningful, cost-effective results. We’re so pleased that his extensive knowledge of business strategy and corporate communications management will now be available to our customers, helping them resolve any technical and financial issues they may have.”
Mr. Garing retired from DISA in June, 2010. In his career with DISA, he also served as Principal Director for Computing Services and Chief for Combat Support. His federal career was distinguished by many significant accomplishments in the areas of strategic planning and operational effectiveness. He led efforts to consolidate to Defense Enterprise Computing Centers (DECCs) which resulted in reduction of 2500 people and $300 million in annual operating costs, and he established the first capacity-on-demand data center infrastructure model based on utility pricing. He led the successful business case and economic analysis for the first DoD enterprise services. He also designed a revised cost-recovery scheme for DoD networks which ultimately resulted in a $200 million annual cost reduction for leased telecommunications. Prior to joining DISA, Mr. Garing served for over 20 years as a Telecommunications Officer in the United States Air Force.
In commenting on his new position, Mr. Garing said, "I’m very happy that I’ve been asked to be a part of this company. ViON enjoys a well-deserved reputation in the IT community for providing quality products and, most importantly, quality service. I plan to do my absolute best to help maintain that reputation, and to ensure that ViON’s customers continue to be well-served."
