Sistina's Data Sharing Software at Heart of Massive Educational Linux Cluster; Continues Sistina's Leadership in High-Performance Computing Environments. Sistina Software, the premier storage infrastructure software company delivering data sharing solutions, is supporting a new high-performance clustering implementation unveiled today at The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (SUNY), one of the world's leading academic high-performance computing sites. The high performance computing cluster (HPCC) will be used in the Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics at the University at Buffalo for human genome research, bio-informatics, protein structure prediction and large-scale computer simulations. In this cluster, Sistina's Global File System(TM) is providing enhanced data sharing functionality, managing data traffic amongst more than 2,000 nodes. Sistina's cluster file system technology is included in the SUNY Buffalo cluster, which combines a large number of individual, standards-based servers to function as a single, powerful system. The combined solution offers the performance, scalability and reliability of traditional proprietary supercomputers at a reduced cost, according to Frank Crusing, Sistina's President and Chief Executive Officer. With the addition of the Buffalo cluster, Sistina continues to provide the industry with the most mature and scalable cluster file system for high-performance computing (HPC) environments. Organizations such as FermiLab, Robertson Research and the National Solar Observatory are using Sistina's GFS in order to provide a complete, single management domain with shared storage to unite a massive patchwork of multiple, diverse storage repositories into an infinitely scalable, smart storage area network (SAN). "Sistina's Global File System is an integral component for enabling data sharing solutions in the HPC cluster at the University at Buffalo, SUNY," said Crusing. "Sistina's proven technology provides simplified management capabilities to our customers who need high performance, robust storage solutions within HPC environments. Sistina is pleased to team with other storage and server industry leaders involved with the Buffalo cluster project." High performance clustering has been successfully used in university and research environments for years to solve complex problems, and has many practical applications for business such as database, web serving, electronic commerce and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
