SANTA CLARA, CA -- Baynet Optics today introduced a four-channel Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) for multi-channel applications for system vendors and carriers. The dynamic four-channel VOA is designed with no moving parts and is intelligent, allowing for remote programmability and reconfigurability. Due to its first-rate optical performance and intelligent circuit design, the four-channel VOA is ideal for dynamic optical power control in OADM, WDM channel power equalization, EDFA gain tilt control, and signal power management in all-optical networks. The four-channel VOA is available with an optional power monitor. The power monitor enables a carrier to examine the level of light intensity between signals through feedback data provided by the power monitor. By monitoring the feedback data, the system can then adjust the light signal into a more balanced and stable beam from each channel, which then can be sent out of the Baynet Optics VOA as a more uniform signal. In keeping with the Baynet Optics product vision, the voltage-controlled four-channel VOA is designed for greater reliability and remote programmability by utilizing the product's intelligence. Being remotely programmable, the VOA can be reconfigured as well as be maintained from a company's central office, which can reduce carriers' costs significantly by eliminating the need for truck roll outs and allowing for easier upkeep. Baynet Optics' VOA plays a key role in designing fiber optic transport systems. The four-channel VOA allows for the management of specific adjustments to the optical power attenuation while maintaining optimal overall balance of the system. Like all Baynet Optics' products, the four-channel VOA is designed for automated manufacturing. The four-channel VOA is based on Baynet Optics' Advanced Micro-Optics technology, which combines cutting-edge component technologies, such as liquid crystal, into integrated modules characterized by intelligence and programmability. Baynet Optics has created its own unique blended liquid crystal formula, and uses engineering specialists to create their own liquid crystal cells specific to the product needs. This rare process creates superior and more reliable products. "Based on carriers' changing needs in optical networks, we have designed our VOA to be compact in size as well as intelligent," said CEO and President Allen Miao. "We have created a product that not only fulfills carriers needs without increased expense but also expands on what is possible as we move to the all-optical network." Baynet Optics already offers a one-channel dynamic VOA, a 1x2 optical switch and two collimators. Baynet Optics' Advanced Micro-Optics technology allows the power consumption drop of VOAs from a few hundred milliwatts to a few milliwatts during operation. Also, multiple module integration can be realized in the near future with liquid crystal technology. For further information visit www.baynetoptics.com
