Barco has created a 3D panoramic view MEGA I-Space museum for the Yunnan Pu'er Tea Culture Centre. The project – providing the first 3D stereo Mega I-Space system for a museum application in Asia – was carried out in collaboration with Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST). Although Pu'er tea is well-known in Yunnan province, most people are not familiar with this special tea and its history. So, the Yunnan Pu'er Tea Culture Centre decided to build a MEGA I-Space museum to popularize the Pu'er tea culture. By means of a stereo panorama space with a screen measuring 11.1 x 11.1 x 4.5 meters, the past, present and future of the Pu'er tea culture are presented to the viewing public.
The system comprises 12 system-optimized Galaxy NW-12 active 3D stereo projectors and related peripherals, with WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution and 12,000 lumens. The system introduces the latest multi-angle supportive design concept to create a virtual reality that combines dream-like images with present-day realities. Barco's multi-channel processing technology ensures the consistency of all frames and the brightness of the full-spectrum of colors to exhibit super high-resolution and high-quality 3D panoramic images. Thanks to its 360° panoramic 3D technology, everything seems close enough to touch. Standing in this huge virtual space, visitors experience a stunning immersion effect.
The new 3D panoramic view MEGA I-Space museum adds an innovative concept to museum display: adding new exhibition elements to folk museums and creating room for innovation in teaching formats, which will have profound effects on national museums around the world.
Professor Fan Jingtao from CUST said: “We chose Barco as our partner because of its superior design abilities and high quality. CUST – a multidisciplinary university of science and technology, with optoelectronic technology as its distinctive feature – is known as China's 'Optical Talent Cradle'. So, we are extremely happy to work with Barco, the visual technology and display solutions innovator, to accomplish this cultural heritage mission.”
Barco's Managing Director Sales & Service and VP Sales Entertainment for Greater China, Mr. Tang Feng, commented:”Barco has always been committed to the development of China's culture industry, and our collaboration with CUST provides a new way of thinking about this development. The equipment we've installed for Yunnan Pu'er Museum creates the first 3D panoramic view museum in Asia. It's a milestone accomplishment for both Barco and national museums worldwide. At the same time, this cooperation also provides a successful example for other enterprises and institutions in the future.”
