ConocoPhillips deploys Schlumberger's supercomputing in the cloud to achieve vast increases in innovation

Schlumberger has announced an enterprise-wide deployment of the cloud-based DELFI cognitive E&P environment for ConocoPhillips. ConocoPhillips will use Schlumberger digital solutions enabled by the DELFI environment to bring its reservoir engineering modeling, data, and workflows to the cloud.

“This digital platform will drive workflow and data efficiency, enabling ConocoPhillips to meet their diverse reservoir engineering modeling needs worldwide,” said Rajeev Sonthalia, president, Digital & Integration, Schlumberger. “Expert teams from both companies will work closely together to integrate our cloud-based digital solutions and AI with ConocoPhillips’ reservoir engineering modeling and workflows.”

Upon completion of the integration, ConocoPhillips reservoir engineers will have access to cloud-based, supercomputing resources in the DELFI environment as well as Schlumberger’s reservoir engineering solutions—including Petrel* E&P software platform's Petrel Reservoir Engineering, INTERSECT high-resolution reservoir simulator, and ECLIPSE industry-reference reservoir simulator.

Zyter qualifies dashboard for 5G private networks; production-ready apps include autonomous mobile robots, LiDAR-based analytics, AI-based cameras

Tyler O'Neal, Staff Editor INDUSTRY February 28, 2022, 1:00 pm

Zyter has collaborated with Qualcomm Technologies to support the demonstration of 5G private networks by providing network management services, a user interface/dashboard, and three initial production-ready applications that include autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), LiDAR-based analytics, and AI-based cameras. Webp.net resizeimage 2022 02 28T192225.702 ebaae

5G private networks offer significant advantages over today’s public 5G and Wi-Fi networks. To fully support digital transformation efforts, modern businesses and organizations need a higher-bandwidth, lower-latency network that can potentially support thousands of devices and data-intensive applications. Advanced network management capabilities, such as allocating bandwidth to different devices or customizing security protocols are also necessary. Current Wi-Fi and 5G public networks offer limited flexibility in these areas. Qualcomm Technologies, Zyter, and other ecosystem members are solving these challenges through the demonstration of 5G private networks powered by Qualcomm FSM 5G RAN Platforms.

In addition to providing network management and a consolidated dashboard to display application and device data, Zyter is also making three production-ready applications available that include:

  • Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) –Equipped with sensors and cameras, AMRs use AI and machine learning to autonomously move goods inside a defined space such as a factory or warehouse.
  • LiDAR-Based Analytics – Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) cameras can be used to detect the movement of people and goods in a defined space, which is rendered on a 3D map viewed on Zyter's dashboard.
  • AI-Based Cameras – This application supports 4K video streams originating from eight cameras provided by Qualcomm Technologies’ device ecosystem members as well as data analysis.

“Applications like LiDAR-based analytics require high bandwidth, low latency networks that can potentially support thousands of devices, render images in 3D, or enable autonomous mobile robots to react in milliseconds,” said Sanjay Govil, founder and CEO of Zyter, Inc. “The combination of Qualcomm Technologies’ platforms for 5G private networks with Zyter’s leading-edge applications offer a world of new possibilities for organizations that want more performance, ownership, and control.”

Zyter is one of the system integrators supporting the introduction of the Qualcomm Private Networks RAN Automation solution. Zyter 5G applications are available for demonstration on the Qualcomm Smart Campus in San Diego.

Torch.AI acquires maritime surveillance company B23; former Navy Seal joins executive team

Tyler O'Neal, Staff Editor INDUSTRY January 27, 2022, 5:00 pm

Torch.AI has announced the acquisition of B23, a Virginia-based data-extraction software company. Brad Kolarov, a former Navy SEAL, and Founder and Managing Partner at B23, joins Torch.AI's executive team as Vice President. B23. Brad, Brian and Adam

Founded in 2014, B23 has grown to become the market leader in Maritime Autonomy and related AI applications, including sourcing and aggregating diverse mission data, such as geo-location, online analytics, and financial instrumentation. The combination of B23's experience in applying machine learning to real-world problems, and Torch.AI's flagship software platform, Nexus, will enable B23's client base to rapidly enhance their data processing power and speed.

"Most people don't realize how difficult maritime IT can be. Disconnected, intermittent, and low bandwidth environments pose unique challenges and demand highly efficient and accurate data processing. There's no room for pretenders," says Brian Weaver, Chairman, and CEO of Torch.AI. "We spend a lot of time in the upper atmospheres of computing performance.  We immediately saw how important the work Brad and the team at B23 were doing for the national security mission. These are tested capabilities and systems that, when combined with our platforms, will provide even more performance for both our commercial and public sector customers."

A well-known thought leader in data technology, Kolarov started his professional career in the U.S. Navy where he spent 9 years as a Navy SEAL and left as a Lieutenant Commander. Before founding B23, he served as an executive at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he helped big data, financial, health care, and public sector clients make their transition to the Cloud. This ultimately culminated in helping AWS win the CIA's Cloud Computing Services (C2S) program.

"I am excited for the B23 team to join forces with Torch.AI, and to continue to bring forth our customer-centric mindset," said Kolarov. "Ever since I put on the uniform, I have been hyper-focused on strengthening our national security posture. The team at Torch.AI shares the same values, and I look forward to growing together."

Torch.AI has rapidly expanded in the public sector. Today's announcement follows the company's 2021 acquisition of DataTech, a data analysis company supporting the Department of Defense. Hondo Geurts, former Assistant Secretary of the Navy, recently joined its Board of Advisors. Nexus, Torch.AI's platform, has been deployed successfully across multiple government agencies and is proven to provide significant security, speed, and quality improvements in the data processing.

"My grandfather hunted Nazi submarines from Navy blimps.  The acquisition of B23 expands our current work supporting the U.S. Navy in extraordinary ways. This responsibility is a special privilege, it's personal," added Weaver. "I've said it before, we are building a dream team here at Torch.AI, and Brad and the team he has built only strengthen that statement."
